I’ve been meaning to upgrade my Jason Voorhees costume for a while now. I have a pretty cool Vs. hockey mask so I decided to make a Vs. machete. In this video I show you how I went about it. If you’d like to download the image of the prop I used as a guide you can get it HERE.
UPDATE 11-11-11: I’ve recently found a great source for these machetes: True Swords.

The one I’m wearing is a NoFace blank i ordered off ebay a few years ago. It came as a raw pull and I cut it out, added straps, and painted it myself. These days your best bet is FRIGHTSTUFF. Their masks are made from the original part 3 mold and can be ordered in various states of completion. The only thing he can’t do is paint them up as that is his agreement with the F13 rights holders. But since the mold is his own creation he can make and sell the masks legally. BTW, that’s a frightstuff mask behind me in the vid (the white one)…I just haven’t painted it yet.

Thanks for the speedy reply! I used your Michael Myers costume for halloween and was the scariest thing in the whole club. Can we expect a painting tutorial for jason’s mask? How about the rest of his costume?
I hope you’re getting some comission from all the halloween supplies you’re indirectly selling.

Coolness. I’d like to put together additional Jason tutorials but I have to balance them out with other things like the Star Wars costumes I’m working on. I’m sure I’ll get back to Mr. Voorhees before next Halloween. Stay tuned.

My finished prop is 28″ long. The original machete was a little bit longer. It was the longest one I could find on ebay but it’s a little short compared the the real prop.

@bladersspirit: Maybe I’ll have something together by this Halloween. I’ve always wanted to complete an accurate FVJ Jason costume. There just never seems to be enough time.

Hi Marco. Sorry, but the dry brush color was a dark grey. I think it was called graphite. It’s almost black, it’s so dark.

Hi Marco, no that link is to a spray lubricant made of actual graphite. You don’t want that. It isn’t even paint.
You need something like this:

I was wondering if you had made any safe for conventions machetes like the ones I have heard of being made out of Lexan . Couls you do a video on making a Lexan Prop Machete Please?

Andrew, I’m sorry but I don’t know anything about making a Lexan version. I honestly don’t see how it could be any safer than this one, but to each their own. Most stunt props are made of a firm foam with rigid fiberglass supports underneath. The guys who make hyperfirm blasters for the 501st only do that as a side line. Their bread and butter is in making stunt props for film and TV. (Sci-Fire.com)
